ElaadNL: Applying Immersive Technology for Training Professionals
In the world of electric mobility, where innovation is the driving force, knowledge and innovation center ElaadNL and Connec2 have joined forces to introduce a revolutionary approach to training. The goal: to prepare professionals for the complex challenges of Smart Charging through immersive mixed reality technologies.
ElaadNL, established by Dutch grid operators, is renowned for its continuous research and testing of smart and sustainable charging solutions for electric vehicles.
Their focus lies in understanding charging behavior, analyzing the growth of electric mobility, and developing the right charging infrastructure.
At the Testlab in Arnhem, ElaadNL experts work with manufacturers from all over the world to test and refine the latest technologies for charging electric cars, trucks, and buses.
Their mission: to future-proof the electric transport system.
Innovation
In close collaboration with ElaadNL, an innovative idea has blossomed: enhancing existing charging station training for professionals with immersive technology. Thanks to the existing 3D model at ElaadNL, we were able to quickly start developing an advanced instructional procedure training. Over the past weeks, Connec2 has been working intensively on the first setup of a virtual training, inspired by the provided material. With great enthusiasm, this new approach to learning and development is taking shape, leveraging the power of mixed reality to create an immersive and effective training experience.
Imagine: you and your team are standing around a BlueCurrent charging station. But instead of the usual training session, you step into a virtual world.
You don’t just see the real world around you, but also virtual elements that bring the installation and commissioning procedure of a charging station to life.
And all of this is supported by guidelines and a voice-over that walk you through every step of the process. How cool is that?
Launch of the Mixed Reality Training
On Thursday, March 7th, the launch of the mixed reality training took place at ElaadNL. Connec2 presented an impressive demonstration of immersive technology, where multiple participants could simultaneously experience the training procedure around a BlueCurrent charging station.
The training was guided not only by a voice-over providing step-by-step instructions — while participants could still see both the real world and each other — but also by a colleague who virtually “flew in” to the immersive environment to provide remote support. It’s educational, it’s innovative, and above all, it’s incredibly fun!
With this, ElaadNL is making major strides toward a future of groundbreaking education in the world of electric mobility.
